MARTINOT ABOGADOS

Martinot Abogados is a business law firm with an edge in transactional matters. Core practices of the firm are Corporate/M&A and Bankruptcy & Insolvency. In addition, the firm provides services in a wide array of practice areas, such as aviation, hospitality, competition & antitrust, data privacy, intellectual property, tax, labor, among others.

In terms of staff the firm has three partners and ten associates. All the members of the firm have been trained in top law schools in Peru and have worked either in major law firms in Peru or in auditing companies. Also, the staff is predominantly comprised by senior lawyers which allows to have a significant seniority component in the team and therefore in the services and advise provided to clients.

Almost half the members of the firm are recognized by major independent survey companies as practice leaders in Corporate/M&A, Bankruptcy & Insolvency and Competition & Antitrust.

Recently the firm has been developing quite an interesting experience in corporate controversies which are issues where shareholders or partners of a business find themselves involved in some sort of controversy or dispute and therefore the whole dynamics of governance as well as the ownership rights have to be dealt within the legal framework of the bylaws, shareholder agreements and similar documents which are usually overlooked when things are smooth amongst partners. This includes assisting in hostile shareholder assemblies, enforcing corporate rights before the management, the board of the shareholder assembly, and planning take over strategies.

In addition to providing assistance in legal issues, lawyers are routinely involved in client’s business issues which allows to have in depth knowledge of the business, the client and its necessities. Also, involvement with the clients allows clients to gather and preserve institutional knowledge that is also relevant when providing legal counsel.
The above allows our firm to provide high level, sophisticated advise from an agile and dynamic outfit where clients and their needs are the priority.

The firm has an open-door policy with its associates and staff members; it is organized in a quite horizontal structure in an effort to set a collegial and collaborative working environment. Project teams for client issues, as well as for internal issues are comprised by partners and associates, where associates are encouraged to propose changes and improvement measures to the firm, as well as to lead such changes or improvements.

Training is also a key component to have the staff motivated and updated, therefore the firm has a training program not only in legal aspects, but also in soft skills, impact presentations and general culture.

From the technology standpoint the firm has made substantial investments in hardware and software; not only for the purposes of billing but also to enable staff and clients to work as a team, under a collaborative platform by sharing documents on one hand and accessing to information on their cases and their intellectual property rights on the other. Technology is a differential component in the legal industry and therefore the firm is permanently exploring alternatives to further incorporate technology in the services it provides.
